The Canton Farmer’s Market had its first farmer’s market of the year this past May 28th. On top of being a great showcasing of our local produce, it’s a great way to expand your own horizons as well. Here are 4 reasons why you should explore the farmer’s market this coming Saturday:
- The food you buy is fresh– The produce at the farmers market is seasonal, meaning what’s available reflects its truest flavors. You get to speak directly to the farmer and can ask any question you may have.
- You’re supporting local farmers– With agribusinesses dominating food production, it’s hard for small family farms to compete. By buying directly from farmers, you’re giving them a better return for their produce and a chance to for them to “grow.”
- Add variety to your diet– At farmers market you find a beautiful array of produce that you don’t see at your average Kroger:a rainbow of heirloom tomatoes & cauliflower, a vast selection of mushrooms & honeys, the freshest types of kale & lettuce and so much more.
- The best taste– The fruits and veggies at the farmers market are seasonal and picked at their ripest point. When they get to your plate, they are at the freshest and tastiest point they can be. There’s no need for chemicals to preserve freshness or gassing to simulate the ripening process, they are just as mother nature intended.
If those reason alone didn’t give you enough reason to give the farmer’s market a try, let’s talk about their vendors this past weekend: Rustic Root, Tom’s Awesome Seafood, Whim-Wham Art Farm, Summerthyme Gardens, Hanalei Bath, Whiteashfarm GA, King of Pops and so many more! It’s definitely worth getting up a little earlier for. Give the farmers market a try and let us know what you think!
