With Memorial Day having passed, the summer season is now officially in full swing, and so are the Canton area Farmers Markets and the chance for residents to buy fresh, locally grown foods and goods. Two of the most popular markets in the area this season appear to be the River Church Farmers Market and the Canton Farmers Market.
Both of these markets offer produce and farm products by local farmers and growers, but they also offer homemade or handmade items made by local vendors including prepared foods, home sewn goods, and craft items for your yard like bird feeders and wind chimes.
Concerts, contests and demonstrations are also part of the fun at these weekly events. The River Church market will be hosting a pie-making demonstration on June 25th and many weekends the Canton market offers music and demonstrations on items like how to build your own rain barrel.
Locations and times for these two markets are –

In addition, this summer the American Farmland Trust is holding a summer-long celebration to raise awareness about local farmers markets throughout the country. Throughout the celebration, consumers will pledge dollars they intend to spend at their local farmers markets. Pledges can be cast once a day and farmers market shoppers can pledge to support more than one farmers market. What is a pledge? A pledge = A commitment to put $10 in the pockets of family farmers. Details can be found on their website www.action.farmland.org
