Cherokee County School District has announced the decision to not use spring break days to make up for instructional days lost due to the recent bad weather in the county.
The State Board of Education has ruled local districts do not have to make up missed days during the time period covered by the state of emergency issued by Gov. Nathan Deal. Districts. Local districts have been given the authority to choose to make up the days in order to ensure enough instructional time.
In contrast, Gwinnett County schools have already made up one day missed and have scheduled two additional makeup dates for March 14 and May 22. Gwinnett will also be extending the school days by 30 minutes for 48 days in March, April, and May to make up the equivalent of four days of instructional time.
