Even though Canton and Cherokee county have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the state, many people who are searching for employment lack the skills or resources required to get a job in today’s competitive work environment. For that reason, MUST Ministries, Cherokee Youth Works and Goodwill are partnering with local area businesses for an exciting collaborative event called “Step Up Your Game.” Hosted on Sept. 6 at the Cherokee County South Annex Recreation Center at 7545 Main St. in Woodstock. This beneficial all-day conference provides informative workshops designed to help job seekers regain their focus and energy while providing practical guidance on how to find a job.
If you need assistance in your job search in Cherokee county, some extra encouragement or a break from your job search routine, come to MUST Ministries, Cherokee FOCUS or Goodwill of North Georgia for a registration form and plan to get inspired on Sept. 6th. Space is limited and the last day to register is Aug. 30th.
Participants can select helpful topics and will also spend time selecting interview clothing. Topics include: Ask HR (ask any question to a group of HR professionals); Practice Interviews to prepare for the real interview; What a CAN DO Attitude Can Do;, since attitude is everything, you don’t want to carry negative thoughts to an interview; Rookie Camp, for first-time job seekers; and others.
Past participants have benefitted greatly from this program. One specific participant who came to the Marietta event last fall was clearly in need of help. Although she faxed her registration, it wasn’t received. When told her registration did not arrive, she said, “Never mind, I’ll just leave.” Organizers asked her to wait, found space in the workshops she needed and she had a meaningful experience. In fact, her summary of the event was “walked in discouraged, leaving smiling, energized and ready for a new job.” Her success with getting interviews increased and she received two job offers. She is now working as an executive assistant and is giving back to the program by collecting clothing at her office for Step Up Your Game. She says she just wants to give back to others facing the same situation that she was in just last year.
Sponsoring businesses for the event include – Northside Hospital – Cherokee, Express Impression, Panera Bread, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q.
