2016 marks the 30th year of the Great Allatoona Clean Up – now that’s impressive! The event is sponsored by the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department, the Acworth Lake Authority, Great Lake Allatoona Clean Up Committee, and the Lake Allatoona Association. This year partners include the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Georgia Power, the Cartersville-Bartow Chamber of Commerce, AMEC, Wildlife Action, the City of Kennesaw, WellStar Health Care System, and many others.
The mission:
The Great Lake Allatoona Cleanup (GLAC), and its partners will lead the Lake Allatoona community in environmental stewardship of the watershed through education, preservation, conservation, and volunteerism.”
The GLAC began partnering with National Public Lands Days in 1999 and has since been one of the largest Public Lands Day events nationally each year. Last year saw a grand total of over 4,100 volunteers who collected more than five tons of trash and 300 tires!
Whether you’re a Girl or Boy Scout troop, church, neighborhood association, team or group of any type, this is a great opportunity to love Lake Allatoona and do your part to keep it clean. Did we mention there’s a giant, fun picnic complete with sponsored booths, music, prizes and more? Gotta have a little fun after getting your hands dirty!
Boat owners are needed to assist with volunteers and collection transportation. If you plan on participating in this year’s GLAC, please register at http://glac-reg.fikket.com. Various sponsorship packages are available for interested businesses.
