Are you “Thinking Green?”

June 20, 2014

Did you know? Enough plastic bottles are thrown away in the United States each year  to circle the Earth four times! If you consider yourself green-minded, there’s a challenge going on in Cherokee County that you should be a part of! The Mayor’s Recycling Challenge is in its third year, with Canton winning the first year and Woodstock taking home the win from last year. The goal of the challenge is to raise awareness about the positive affects of recycling and to boost community spirit in each city.

Recycle to Win the Mayor’s Recycling Challenge recycling

Presented by Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Waste Management, each city in Cherokee county can compete through the end of July to win the title. The challenge began on June 1, but runs through  July 31, so there’s still plenty of time to win the title for your city!

How to Participate

Canton residents can participate in the Mayor’s Recycling Challenge by bringing all of their recyclables to the bins located at Canton City Hall. Holly Springs residents can drop their recycling at the bins located in the parking lot on Jackson Street. Curbside recycling will also count, so be sure to fill your recycling bins each week.

For more questions about the challenge or to find the recycling bins nearest you, visit the Cherokee Chamber of Commerce website. Good luck!
