12% Increase in Traffic Fatalities #itcanwait

August 20, 2015

In recent Georgia news, the amount of traffic deaths has increased. The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) is convinced that this is in part due to the increased use of devices while driving. With school back in session, it is quite possible that you are noticing an increase in traffic and maybe even traffic accidents. In an effort to help keep drivers and students safe, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) is ramping up for the September It Can Wait campaign.Atlanta

It Can Wait

The It Can Wait campaign applies to anyone behind the wheel of a car. Answering texts, emailing, dialing a number, or even using voice activated capabilities only add to the potential dangers of distractions in a vehicle. The It Can Wait campaign encourages drivers of all ages to remember that the text, call, email, or other task that they want to complete on their smart phone can wait!

Why Is This Campaign Important?

Research is pointing to the fact that drivers engage in risky activities beyond texting while driving. With this knowledge, it is important to step beyond the simple message involving avoiding texting and driving. Even a hands free conversation can take a driver’s focus off the road and the most important task of driving safely.

How can one get involved?

Take the pledge to keep eyes on the road at itcanwait.com. Learn about the helpful apps that work to help keep eyes and attention on the road while driving in an effort to avoid the catastrophes that are associated with using a smartphone or other device while driving.
